Gadchiroli July 28 (District Correspondent) Gadchiroli-Chimur Lok Sabha MP Dr. Namdeo Kirsan, visited Markanda Temple and inspected the restoration work of the temple. He interacted with the officials of the Archaeological Department and expressed concern over the slow pace of the restoration work and gave clear instructions to speed up the work and complete it in a quality manner.
The ancient Hemadpanthi temple at Markanda, known as the Kashi of Vidarbha, has been awaiting restoration for the past several years. The Archaeological Department had started the restoration work about ten years ago, but the work has not been completed yet, creating an atmosphere of discontent among the devotees in the area. On this background, Dr. Kirsan visited the temple.
Dr. Kirsan had held a meeting of the concerned officials in the temple area a year ago and ordered the work to be completed immediately, after which some work had started. However, due to the lack of expected momentum, Muralidhar Maharaj of Haranghat has started a 108-day padyatra along the north bank of the Wainganga River for this work.
As soon as Dr. kirsan got information about this, Dr. Kirsan met Muralidhar Maharaj and sought his opinion, and immediately went to the Markanda temple area and inspected the reconstruction work.
Archaeology Department officials Dr. Arun Malik, Neeraj Tiwari, Shubham Kore, and Naib Tehsildar Kawale were present during this inspection tour. Chamorshi Taluka Congress President Pramod Bhagat, Nagar Panchayat Vice President Lomesh Burande, senior leader Rajesh Thakur, Sumedh Ture, Nikesh Gaddewar, Rajnikant Motghare, Vasant Raut, Sarpanch Sangeetatai Mogre were also present.
Dr. Kirsan has previously demanded in Parliament that the restoration work of this historic temple be completed as soon as possible and devotees be provided with facilities.
