Gadchiroli June 6 (District Correspondent) Lloyds Metals and Energy Ltd (LMEL) celebrated the World Environment Day on Thursday with various pathbreaking environment-friendly initiatives at its Surjagarh Iron Ore Mine as well as launch of ‘Green Gadchiroli’ initiative at Gadchiroli, and a programme at Konsari.

Mr. B. Prabhakaran, Managing Director, LMEL, graced the programmes at Surjagarh, Konsari, and Gadchiroli. Addressing the gathering, he shared his dream of making ‘Green Steel’ in Gadchiroli district in tune with India’s growth story.

He said that Maharashtra’s first and country’s only fourth slurry pipeline would become operational in the next couple of months. This will reduce road transport based on fossil fuel consumption, and also reduce carbon footprint massively. The foundation stone of the Steel Plant will be laid soon, he added. “We have a clear mission – of making steel with less carbon emission, inclusive growth, catering to the local community stakeholders through multiple engagements including jobs, healthcare, education,” he added.

Under the ‘Green Gadchiroli’ initiative, more than 30,000 trees are to be planted in Gadchiroli city and as many as 11 lakh trees in the entire Gadchiroli district. Proper survey and selection of sites etc will be done to ensure that plantation is sustainable,” announced Mr. B. Prabhakaran, while speaking at the launch of ‘Green Gadchiroli’ initiative in the premises of Gondwana University.

Mr. Suhas Gade, CEO of Zilla Parishad, Prof Manish Uttarwar, Director, Gondwana University, also shared the dais. Gade appreciated the environment-friendly initiatives of LMEL and said that the initiative aligned well with CM Mr. Devendra Fadnavis’ announcement of 10 crore tree plantation this year.

Mr. Maheep Gupta, former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, made introductory remarks and highlighted how Gadchiroli had transformed positively in a matter of just a few years because of various initiatives of LMEL. Prof. Uttarwar proposed a vote of thanks.

At Konsari, Mr. B. Prabhakaran initiated a plantation drive. He also visited a motivational training workshop organised by LMEL for its staffers from Konsari and their spouses and distributed gifts to the participants. At Surjagarh, LMEL got the first Bharat Electric Vehicle grader from LiuGong and LNG trucks from Volvo, and also inaugurated the simulator and first-ever electric compressor excavator drill rig.

Mr. B. Prabhakaran; Shailesh Ranjankar, SDPO, Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch from various villages including Aruna Sadmek, Vanita Korami, Nevluji Gawde, Raju Timma, Madhukar Sadmek, Kalpana Alam, Ganesh Gota, Bapuji Gawde, Prashant Atram and senior officers of LMEL shared the dais on this occasion.

During the programme, Mr. Prabhakaran flagged off 35 e-bikes handed over to women, distributed Health Cards to Sarpanchas and Deputy Sarpanchas. He also handed over a certificate of appreciation to the team of Iron Ore Grinding Unit for completing the work of the slurry pipeline in the shortest possible time. A group of management trainees of Lloyds Infinite Foundation presented a skit on environmental awareness.
