
Gadchiroli June 5 (District Correspondent) Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane assured that the government will make every effort to increase fisheries production in Gadchiroli district and make this district a leader in the state.
In a meeting held at the collectorate here on Wednesday, he emphasized on removing silt from lakes and removing encroachments in the lake area to increase fisheries production.
The meeting was attended by District Collector Avishyant Panda, Aheri MLA Dharmaraobaba Atram, Gadchiroli MLA Dr. Milind Narote, ZP CEO Suhas Gade, Fisheries Deputy Commissioner Sunil Jambhule, Additional District Collector Nitin Gawande, RDC Sunil Suryavanshi and other officials.
Minister Rane learned the reasons for Gadchiroli district lagging behind in fisheries production and asked how it can be increased. He instructed the Fisheries and Irrigation Department to discuss with the fishermen and lake contractors and understand their problems. Minister Rane told the Water Conservation Department to undertake a special campaign to remove silt from lakes. He also assured to provide necessary funds to increase fish production.
Along with this, a discussion on reserving five percent of funds in the district planning to implement various fish growth schemes in the district was discussed. He also directed to ensure that the benefits of the schemes for the tribal community in the gram panchayats of the Pesa area reach only them and no one else takes advantage of it. Efforts will be made to establish a government fish seed production centre in Gadchiroli, Rane said.
He also informed that work is underway to prepare new schemes for fishermen and to increase fish production in the state. Assistant Commissioner of Fisheries Department Sameer Dongre gave information about Gadchiroli district through a presentation.
Former MLA Krishna Gajbe, BJP district chief Ramesh Barsagade, Executive Engineer of Irrigation Department Rahul Morghade, Executive Engineer of Water Conservation Department Amit Raut, all Deputy Commissioners of Fisheries and concerned officers of Nagpur division were present on this occasion.
