Gadchiroli Feb. 23 (District Correspondent) Member of Parliament from Gadchiroli Chimur Lok Sabha Dr. Namdeo Kirsan has written a letter to the District Collector of Gadchiroli to find an alternative place for the proposed airport at Gadchiroli without acquiring fertile agricultural land of the farmers.
A new airport is proposed in Gadchiroli and a survey of the land in the agricultural areas of Murkhada, Mudja, Pulkhal, Kaneri villages near Gadchiroli has been conducted for it. Since the process of acquiring the fertile land of the farmers is underway, there is a strong opposition from the farmers. On this background, Dr. Kirsan has written this letter.
In this letter, the MP has pointed out that the farmers of Gadchiroli taluka do not have any major business other than agriculture, and the farmers of Murkhada, Mudja, Pulkhal, Kaneri villages who are small landholders, have no other option but agriculture for their livelihood. Therefore, the farmers of the said village are opposing the acquisition of agricultural land for the airport.
The construction work of the Kotgal Lift Irrigation Scheme is being completed with the aim of increasing the agricultural produce in the said area and making the farmers prosperous. In such a situation, if the fertile land in the benefit area of the irrigation project is acquired for the construction of an airport, the Kotgal irrigation Scheme will not be used, Dr. kirsan has further stated.
It has to be ensured that the livelihood of the poor people of the said villages is not be destroyed for the airport in Gadchiroli, nor will there be any opposition from any Gram Sabha for the construction of the airport, Dr. kirsan has also said.
In this regard, without acquiring the fertile land of the farmers of the above villages, the government land of the forest department, which is available in the form of bush- forest near the Government Science College, Gadchiroli should be proposed for the airport and residential houses, Dr. Kirsan has suggested to the District Collector through this letter.
