Gadchiroli Nov. 20 (District Correspondent) The district of Gadchiroli recorded approximately 69.63 percent voting in Assembly elections in the district.

The district has three Assembly constituencies namely Armori, Gadchiroli and Aheri, all of them are reserved for Scheduled Tribes. Armori polled 71.26 percent votes, Gadchiroli 69.22 percent and Aheri 68.43 percent.

Voting started from 7 am today. The time limit of voting for Gadchiroli district was 3 pm only. As the voting could not be completed on some polling stations, voting continued till late in the evening and final figures of the voting are yet to come.

The district administrations had made elaborate arrangements on the polling stations. In sensitive areas also voters queued up for voting since morning. At a polling station of Laheri in Bhamragad taluka on Chhattisgarh border as well as a remote village of Hedri in Etapalli taluka also witnessed a queue of voters.

A facility of wheel chairs was made available for the age old and handicapped voters. The polling staff helped these voters to take them to the booth. An 111 year old woman voter Fulmati Binod Sarkar exercised her franchise on Govindpur booth in Mulchera taluka. She was welcomed by the polling staff by presenting her garland. Fulmati had denied home voting and had insisted for direct voting. She also appealed the people to vote in her mother tongue Bengali. The administration had arranged the four-wheeler and wheel chair for this woman.

District Collector Sanjay Daine reached the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Primary school booth along with his family and cast his vote. Superintendent of Police Neelotpal also cast his vote with the family and Zilla Parishad CEO Ayushi Singh also exercised her franchise at Gadchiroli booth. Election observer Anil Kumar Thakur visited many polling stations and inspected the voting process.
