All party protest against Gondwana University over D. Lit issue.

Gadchiroli Oct. 3 (District Correspondent) Various social and political organizations in the district staged demonstrations at Indira Gandhi square here on Wednesday and strongly opposed the Gondwana University’s decision to confer honorary D. Lit. to Dy. Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis and Forest and Cultural Affairs Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar and also the decision of giving ‘Jeevan Sadhana; award to Vidarbha Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram’s Sharad Salphale.

Commemorating the 13 th anniversary of Gondwana University, and Cultural Affairs Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar are to be awarded Honorary D.Lit. at the hands of the governor C. P. Radhakrishnan on Wednesday. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis however did not attend the programme.

Both the ministers are prominent leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The university failed to uphold the constitutional values and acted in a partial way by conferring these degrees to the leaders of a particular leaders, it was alleged. Vice Chancellor Bokare ignored all the rules, it was alleged by the organizations.

The organizations also opposed the decision to give ‘Jeevan Sadhana Gaurav award to Vidarbha Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram’s Dr. Sharad Salphade. This award’ is an insult to all tribal people of Gadchiroli and Chandrapur district, said the organizations.

There are many persons in Gadchiroli and Chandrapur districts, who have done great work in the social field, but all of them have been neglected hence we condemn the university, said the organizations.

Dr. Prashant Bokare should be expelled from the post for hios partial attitude, demanded the organization.Mr. hiraman Warkhede, former MLA and well-known tribal leaders and Vasantrao kulsange, noted tribal activist and President of Veer Baburao Shedmake Memorail Society were honoured during the agitation by giving them people’s degrees.

The organizations opposing the university decision were Movement for Justice, All India Republican Party, Shetkari Kamgar Paksh, Azad Samaj Party, Adiwasi Yuwa Parishad, Jango Raytad, All India Adiwasi Employees Federation, Sanvidhan Foundation, Mali Samaj Sangathana, Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti, Bouddha Mahasabha and many others.
