Gadchiroli Aug. 14 (District Correspondent) President’s gallantry medals have been announced to 17 police officers and employees of the Gadchiroli Police on the eve of the Independence Day, who fought against the Maoists at the risk of their lives. One police officer has been awarded a medal for his meritorious service.
The officers and jawans who have performed excellently in the police force as well as the armed forces across the country are honoured on the occasion of Independence Day. This year too, the President has announced a total of 208 police gallantry medals and 624 meritorious service medals across the country, out of which 17 police gallantry medals and one meritorious service medal have been awarded to the Gadchiroli police force.
The police officers and jawans are- Anuj Tare, who served as Additional SP in Gadchiroli and is currently SP of Washim, DySP Dr. Kunal Sonwane, Assistant Inspector Rahul Devde, Sub-Inspector Deepak Aute, Vijay Sapkal, Constable Mahesh Michcha, Kotla Korami, Nagesh Kumar Madarboina, Samayya Asam, Mahadev Wankhede, Vivek Narote, Moreshwar Potavi, Amaldar- Korke Veladi, Kailas Kulmethe, Shakeel Sheikh, Vishwanath Pendam. Police Sub-Inspector Madhukar Naitam has received the President’s Medal for Meritorious Service. Martyr Sub-Inspector Dhanaji Honmane has been announced with a posthumous gallantry medal.
This year, on the eve of Republic Day, 18 police officers and jawans were awarded with the President’s Police Gallantry Medal and 1 Police Officer received Meritorious Service Medal. Since 2023, Gadchiroli Police Force has received a total of 3 Shaurya Chakras, 203 Police Gallantry Medals and 08 Meritorious Service Medals.
Gadchiroli police force succeeded in killing a total of 4 Maoists in different encounters -2017- Kapevancha-Kavatharam, 2019- Mormetta and 2022- Kapevancha-Nainer. Taking note of the successful performance, all the police officers and jawans involved in the said encounter were selected for the President’s Police Gallantry Medals.
