Gadchiroli Aug. 10 (District Correspondent) World Tribals Day was celebrated by various organizations here on Aug. 9 last. The Gadchiroli city and the entire district had a great atmosphere on this day. Thousands of tribals wearing yellow clothes, participated in the rally held at many places in the district and danced to the beats of the drums.
A marathon competition was organized in the city in which large number of young people participated in it. MLA Dr. Dewrao Holi flagged off the marathon. Former deputy chairman Vilas Dashmukhe, tribal activist Kunal Kove, BJP’s Madhukar Bhandekar were present. The prizes of thousands of rupees were given in this competition which was held in two groups namely women and men.
A grand rally was organized by the tribal organizations. The office bearers of various tribal organizations and thousands of women, men and youth participated in the rally which was taken out from Indira Square of the city. The participants presented traditional tribal dances during the rally which attracted attention of the people.
The rally converted into a public meeting at Sanskriti Bhawan where the tribal flag was hoisted at the hands of the Civil Surgeon Dr. Pramod Khandate. Assistant Commissioner of Social Welfare Dr. Sachin Madavi was the chief guest while Mr. Gulab Madavi presided over the programme.
Earlier in the morning, a portrait of late tribal leader Baburao Madavi was garlanded by the tribal activists at Baburao Madavi chouk on Dhanora Road. Vidarbha Working President of Adivasi Vikas Parishad Ghanshyam Madavi, All India Adiwasi Employees Federation leader Bharat Yerme, Anand Kangale, Dr. Bagraj Dhurve, Marotrao Ichodkar, Vasantrao Kulasange were prominently present.
