
Gadchiroli May 15 (District Correspondent) Sant Tukaram worked to create awareness in the society through literature and abhangas. He talked about superstitions, ethical values, scientific approach etc. through Abhangagatha. His thoughts are clear and inspiring for the society, said Dr. Narendra Arekar, Head of Marathi in Munghate College of Arts and Sciences, Kurkheda.
He was speaking in a prize distribution of the essay competition and a lecture on “Sociability in Sant Tukaram Maharaj’s Abhangagatha” in the auditorium of the Gondwana University here the other day.
Head of Study Center Dr. Hemraj Nikhade, Prof. Dr. Dhanraj Patil, Dr. Preeti Patil, Prof. Savita Govindwar were prominently present.
Dr. Arekar further said, the influence of religious sects and ideas of saints has not decreased. The thought of the saint is still applicable. It is important to note the strength of these thoughts. Also, there is a unique relationship between religion and faith. All the saints, including Tukaram, took care that the public should not follow the path of superstition. Tukaram’s passion for public welfare had the fragrance of action. Even today the people sing Tukaram’s abhangas. His thoughts are inspiring for many sections of the society.
Dr. Hemraj Nikhade said, essays based on the life of Sant Tukaram Maharaj were called from the college students of Gondwana University. The contest was held with the view that the ideas of the saints should reach the citizens and students.
Ms. Sneha Banpurkar of Nevjabai Hitkarini College, Bramhpuri got the first prize. Ms. Himadri Bhupati Gain of PGTD Commerce Department won the second place. Sahil Zade and Vishal Nikode of Sardar Patel College, Chandrapur got the third prize. Saili Palathia of PGTD History Department, Daisy Nikhare of Gyanesh College, Navargaon were given the consolation prizes.
