Gadchiroli Aug. 13 (District Correspondent) Akhil Bhartiya Adiwasi Vikas Parishad (ABAVP) has strongly opposed the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and has demanded that it should not be implemented at all as the law is against the tribals of the country.

Addressing a press conference at the Press Club here on Saturday Mr. Keshao Tiranik, State General Secretary of the Parishad told that the tribals are the aboriginal inhabitants of India and they have protected the jal, jangal and jameen of the country. They have the unique culture, traditions and a separate social, cultural identity. With the introduction of the UCC this identity is most likely to be wiped out. The law should therefore not be passed and implemented in India, he demanded.

The Adiwasi Vikas Parishad strongly condemns the inhuman incident of tribal women’s parading in Manipur and the central government should immediately dissolve the Manipur government and impose president’s rule in the state, Tiranik further demanded. The accused in the case be given the punishment of hanging, he demanded. A delegation of the Parishad is shortly going to visit Manipur to share the difficulties of the tribals there, he informed.

Mr. Tiranik also came down heavily on Gadchiroli Chimur Lok Sabha MP Ashok Nete for his demand of including Lohar and other communities in Scheduled Tribes. Mr. Nete should immediately withdraw his amendment bill he had submitted in the parliament in this regard, he demanded.

The demand raised by Gadchiroli MLA in the state Assembly to fill in the vacancies in PESA area from amongst the non-tribal candidates also is totally unacceptable and unjust for the tribal youths. All the posts in PESA areas should be filled in from the tribal candidates themselves, he demanded and condemned the MLA’s demand.

So many incidents of the atrocities on the tribals have taken place in the past few days which includes urinating on a tribal man in Madhya Pradesh, rape on a mentally retarded tribal girl in Jiwti taluka, rape and murder a tribal woman from Kelapur taluka etc., Tiranik pointed out and demanded stringent action be taken against the accused in all these cases.

The Adiwasi vikas Parishad will launch an intensive agitation against all these atrocities, he warned. Also present at the press conference were Mr. Janardan Pandhre, national executive member, Vitthalrao Kodape, district chief, Bhaiyyaji Yerme, district working president, Ms. Varsha Atram, district women’s chief, Sunita Maraskolhe, state organizing secretary, Gulabrao Madavi, district general secretary, Wamanrao Junghare, Prof. Parshuram Uike, Kunal Kowe, district youth chief, Janardan Gedam, Ashok Meshram, Geeta Salame, Pushpatai Shidam and others.
