1 woman killed, 2 injured in wild elephant attack in Bhamragad village.

Gadchiroli April 26 (District Correspondent) After trampling a man from Bhamragad to death yesterday, the wild elephant has again attacked three women from village Hidur in the same taluka injuring them seriously last evening spreading thereby a reign of terror in the area. However, Raje Kopa Halami died in the hospital during treatment.

The injured women have been identified as Mahari Devu Wadde (50), Raje Kopa Halami (50) and Vanje Juru Pungati, all residents of village Hidur. The condition of two of them is stated to be critical.

The elephant was first seen in Kosfundi village of this taluka early yesterday morning. It then went to Karampalli-Tekla Forest. Then around 4 pm, a farmer named Gonglu Telami, who was working in the farm at village Kiyar was trampled to death.

The elephant moved out from that area and went to Hidur village in Arewada area. During the Mata Puja program which was going on there at around 7:30 in the evening, it seriously injured the three women.

All the three women were admitted to a Rural Hospital in Bhamragarh. However, as the injuries were serious, they were later shifted to the District General Hospital, Chandrapur. A woman’s condition is critical due to severe injuries to both her legs and stomach, and the medical authorities have expressed the possibility that both of them will be permanently disabled.

Meanwhile, Gatta Forest Range officials are monitoring the elephant along with drones, hulla squads and forest department teams.

People in the area are quite terrorized due to these incidents.
