Gadchiroli Sept. 24 (District Correspondent) Vidarbha Rajya Andolan Samiti has decided to burn down the ‘Nagpur Agreement’ on Sept. 28 next at all the district and taluka places in Vidarbha region and will for the statehood of Vidarbha.
This was told by Mr. Arun Kedar, East Vidarbha President of the Samiti in a press conference here on Thursday.
Mr. Kedar told the Samiti has been agitating for the statehood of Vidarbha region for the last several years but the government has not taken any cognizance as yet. Now that the BJP is in power both at the center and the state which had sought votes in the name of separate Vidarbha, it is the duty of the elected representatives of this party to get the demand fulfilled.
We have therefore decided to intensify our agitation to attract the attention of the state and the central government towards the long pending demand. The Nagpur Agreement has become outdated and has cheated the people of Vidarbha that is why we are going to burn it down, told Kedar.
On Oct. 2 the workers of VRAS will stage ‘Atmaklesh’ agitation in front of the statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and other national leaders throughout Vidarbha. On Oct. 3, memorandums will be sent to the Prime Minister and Home Minister of India through the District Collectors and Tehsildars, Kedar further told.
On Sept. 11 all the Members of Parliament from Vidarbha region will be sent letters seeking their stand on the issue of separate Vidarbha state and they will be asked to vacate their posts if they don’t agree with the demand.
Also present at the press conference were Mr. Mukesh Masurkar, Youth President, Arun Munghate, District Coordinator, Naseer Jumman, District President of Jay Vidatbha Party, Prashant Jaykumar, of Transpor Front, Ramesh Bhurse, Dadaji Chafle, Amita Madavi, Ramesh Uppalwar and others.
