hunger strike

Gadchiroli Jan. 26 (District Correspondent) Well known tribal leader of Gadchiroli district and founder president of  Veer Baburao Adivasi Vikas Prabodhan Samiti Vasantrao Kulasange has started an indefinite hunger strike  in front of the main entrance of Gondwana University today.

A portrait of Tantya Bhill, noted tribal revolutionary was garlanded by Mr. Kulsange before launching his hunger strike. Mr. Prashant Madavi, district President of Gondwana Gantantra Party’s youth front was especially present on this occasion.

His main demands are that the resolution of Gondwana university senate to name an auditorium under construction in the University premises after RSS leader Dutta Didolkar should be withdrawn immediately and to name the said auditorium after great freedom fighter Veer Baburao Shedmake.

At present, intense anger is being expressed over the name of Didolkar in many parts of Maharashtra and several tribal, Dalit and Bahujan community organizations have strongly demanded the cancellation of this resolution. This demand is getting huge support from the elected public representatives and leaders of various political parties, social organizations as well. As a part of this movement, Mr. Kulsange, has started his hunger strike from the Republic Day today.

Meanwhile, leaders of many social and political organizations met Mr. Kulsange today and extended their full support to his demand. They included Mr. Prashant Madavi of the Gondwana Gantantra Party, Hansraj Undirwade of the all india Republican Party, Raj Bansod of the Bahujan Republican Socialist Party and others.

Mr.  Vasantrao Kulasange has taken a firm stand that he will not withdraw his hunger strike until his demand is met. The naming of Gondwana University hall is a great insult of the tribal heroes and revolutionaries who have sacrificed their lives in the freedom struggle of the country and saving the natural resources of forest, land and water, he said. What contribution Didolkar has in the University and the districts of Chandrapur and Gadchiroli, he asked.
