Gadchiroli Aug. 29 (District Correspondent) With Municipal elections round the corner, various political parties organized ‘Tanha Pola’ programme in different parts of the city and celebrated the festival with the children, their parents and the citizens.
Both the Pola and Tanha Pola are quite popular in the city and are celebrated by the people with great enthusiasm. This years Tanha Pola was special for the politicians as the elections to the Municipal Council is round the corner, though they have not been declared as yet.
The wooden bullocks are carved out of wood and thousands of rupees are spent on them. With different colours and other decorative items, these bullocks are then taken to the site of programme in a procession amidst beating of drums.
The Congress Party organized the festival in the premises of Municipal School in Goukl Nagar. Dr. Namdeo Usendi, General Secretary of MPCC and former MLA, presided over the programme while Dr. Namdeo Kirsan, another General Secretary and District Incharge of the party was the chief guests. A scores of party workers attended the programme.
An exhibition and contest of the ‘Nandi Bail’ (wooden bullock) was organized and attractive prizes were declared on the decoration of these artificial bullocks. Many children clad in colourful costumes participated in this contest. After traditional puja of these Nandis, their valuation was done by the guests and prizes were given to the winners. While the first three winners were given bicycles, the participants were given school bags and umbrellas.
Mr. Anup Kohle conducted the programme. Also present on the occasion were Mr. Satish Vidhate, Pandurang Ghotekar, Dewaji Sontakke, Ms. Aparna Kheole, Rupesh Nandankar, Balu Madavi and many other Congress workers besides large number of people.
In Lanzeda, BJP workers had organized the programme. Mr. Anil Kunghadkar, former vice President of Municipal Council, Mukteshwar Katwe, City BJP chief, Anil Tidke, district General Secretary of Yuwa Morcha, Harshal Gedam, City chief were prominently present. The prizes were distributed to the winners at the hands of Mr. Kunghadkar.
At Indira Nagar locality also the festival was celebrated with great zeal by the workers of BJP and prizes were given to the winners at the hands of Mr. Kunghadkar. Mr. Rakesh Naitam, Kailash Bhandekar, Suraj Badwaik, Gurudeo Bhurse and many others were present on the occasion.
The NCP workers also had organized the Tanha Pola programme in the city. Mr. Vijay Goradwar, City President of the party presided while Ms. Sandhya Uike, Minal Chimurkar, former councillors, Amol Kulmethe of Youth NCP were the chief guests.
Sweets were distributed to the participants and the guests delivered lectures on the importance of the festival following prize distribution. In many other parts of the city and the district also the festival was celebrated with the politicians actively participating in them.
