Gadchiroli Dec. 25 (District Correspondent) Quite a sensation has prevailed in political circles of the district as the District Collector Sanjay Daine has disqualified the President and 8 other ruling councillors of Aheri Nagar Panchayat for illegally regularising the encroachment of a political leader.
The order was passed by the Collector on Dec. 24 last under section 44 of Maharashtra Nagar Parishada Nagar Panchayati Audyogik Nagri Adhiniyam 1965 which has come as a big shock to the ruling party leaders of Aheri.
The name of the President of Nagar Panchayat is Ms. Roja Karpet and the councillors are Ms. Surekha Godshelwar, Nouras Sheikh, Ms. Jyoti Sadmek, Ms. Meena Ondre, Shailendra Patwardhan, Vilas Galbale, Vilas Sidam and Mahesh Bakewar.
Ms. Shalini Pohnekar, councillor from Prabhag Number 15 of the Aheri Nagar Panchayat had filed a complaint against these councillors with the District collector urging him to disqualify them for their illegal act of regularising the encroachment on a government land.
The ruling councillors had passed a resolution in the general meeting of the Nagar Panchayat held on Oct. 3, 2022 to regularise the illegal construction of Mr. Ajay Kankadalwar, a resident of Aheri and former President of Gadchiroli Zilla Parishad on the public road.
The district Collector, after hearing the case, had clearly found that the councillors had brought the subject of regularising the illegal construction for discussion in the general meeting of the Nagar Panchayat with an intention to help the illegal construction and got it passed illegally. By doing so, the councillors violated the provisions of section 44 of Maharashtra Nagar Parishada Nagar Panchayati Audyogik Nagri Adhiniyam 1965 and directly helped the said illegal construction, mentioned the collector in his order.
Ajay Kankdalwar group was in power in Aheri Nagar Panchayat with the help of a splinter group of Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP. The BJP councillors had continuously followed up the case by providing all the evidence of illegal encroachment to the District Collector, Gadchiroli.
Everyone’s attention had been focused on the outcome of the case for the last two years. Finally, District Collector Sanjay Daine, giving the verdict on this case, declared all 9 councillors including the President Roja Karpet and vice-president Shailesh Patwardhan disqualified from their membership of the Nagar Panchayat.
It is noteworthy that the District Collector Sanjay Daine was transferred yesterday only but gave a strong blow to the ruling councillors by deliviering his verdict at the last minute.
