Gadchiroli Feb. 15 (District correspondent) Thanks to the solar energy equipment installed at Shri Govindrao Munghate Mahavidyalaya, Kurkheda, thousands of rupees have been saved and the college has contributed in the national task of saving energy.
Dandakaranya Educational and Cultural Development Research Institute was founded by late Mr. Govindrao Munghate in 1972. Vidyabharati (now Shree Govindrao Munghate College) was established in 1992 in a remote place like Kurkheda to ensure that knowledge reaches the doorsteps of tribal students.
Initially, the college was started in a small rented house. In 2000, a spacious building of the college was erected on a separate site of the institute on Kurkheda-Wadsa Road. Dr.Rajabhau Munghate took the charge of the principal of the college from 1999 and the progress of the college started. Since 2009, Prin. Dr. Rajabhau Munghate has started a science department along with the arts department so that the students of the tribal areas can get science education.
At the outset, Arts Department was started in six rooms of a separate building. But after the start of the science branch, the need for a separate classroom was felt. Being a science branch, there was also a need for a laboratory. The completion of these entire classrooms and laboratories was done under the leadership of Dr. Rajabhau Munghate.
Due to his leadership, a handsome and spacious building of the college was erected. In all these classrooms and laboratories, all the required electrical equipment including fans, light system etc have been installed. The college has a separate state-of-the-art sports complex and the lights have been arranged at this place.
For all these equipment, the college was to bear the electricity bills of fifteen to twenty thousand rupees per month. Considering these heavy expenses, the college management decided to install five kilowatts of solar energy in the college. Accordingly, complete solar powered equipment was installed in the college. Due to this solar energy, the monthly bill of the college has come down to just between Rs. 800 and 1,000.
This has saved thousands of rupees to the college. Along with this, the use of natural resources for energy generation is saving the environment and the college is playing its part in stopping the degradation of the environment. These laudable activities of the college are being appreciated everywhere.
