Gadchiroli Sept. 10 (District Correspondent) The Lions Club International has given helping hand to the flood affected people in Sironcha taluka by distributing relief material to them. A team of the functionaries of the Lions Club visited the flood hit villages recently and handed over help to 500 families from 4 villages.
Due to continuous 10-day heavy rains in the month of July, 54 villages of Sironcha taluka were in a flood situation. Many people’s lives have been destroyed; thousands of families have become homeless. Considering this calamity, Lions Club International, which is always active in social work, has given a helping hand to the disaster-stricken families.
There was a huge increase in the water storage in the dam, people had to struggle to save their lives, the issue of livelihood arose before them due to the destruction of food items and grains. Due to inundation of villages in many villages, the citizens had to live in camps on the national highway on the risk of their lives.
Many social organizations and the government machinery tried to reach the needy people, but that help also was insufficient. Noting that some of the heavily damaged villages were deprived of this assistance, Lions Club Gadchiroli team led by Dr. Suresh Ladke, Shemdev Chafle and Girish Kukkudpawar selected 500 needy families from four villages of Asaralli, Somanur, Chintanapally, and Nagaram in Sironcha taluka on the directives of Lions Club International District 3234-H 1 Governor T. V. Shravan Kumar Nair and reached the relief material to the flood affected people.
The social workers of the area Gajanan Kalakshapawar, Srikanth Suramwar, Ramesh Batulla, Arun Chembulwar and others also extended necessary cooperation in the task.
As many as 500 kits which included good quality 2 blankets, 2 bed sheets, 1 mosquito net, 1 tarpaulin, 1 ladies’ gown, 1 bucket etc. were distributed among the 500 flood affected families. Citizens were happy to receive help from the Lions Club.
While distributing kits to the needy, Governor T. V Shravan Kumar Nair, Deputy Governor Balbir Singh Vij, senior officials Nishikant Pratape, Rajan Gupta, Sharad Vijayvargi, Gajanan Kalakshapawar, Srikant Sugarwar, Ramesh Batulla, Arun Chembulwar, Project Director Dr. Suresh Ladke, President of Lions Club Gadchiroli Dr. Savita Sadamwar, Secretary Mahesh Borawar, Treasurer Mamta Kukudpawar, Senior Members Balasaheb Padmawar, Bhujang Here, Seshrao Yelekar, Nitin Chembulwar, Sarpanch of the village and citizens were present in large numbers.
