Gadchiroli Oct. 14 (District Correspondent) A hardcore Maoist named Chainuram, also known as Sukku Watte Korsa (48), resident of Tekametta, Distt Narayanpur, Chattisgarh was today arrested by the Gadchiroli Police.
This was informed by Mr. Nilotpal, SP in a press conference here this afternoon.
The police got an information that Chainuram was roaming suspiciously near Gadchiroli -Kanker Border to keep a watch on movement of police parties. In light of this information, an anti-Naxal operation was planned by the personnel of C-60 Gadchiroli on Jaravandi – Sohgaon road leading to his successful arrest.
He was personally involved in the Hikker exchange of fire that took place in March 2023. Accordingly, he has been arrested in the crime registered under sections of IPC, Indian Arms Act, Indian Explosive Act, Maharashtra Police Act, and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) registered at PS Etapalli.
Chainuram was recruited as a member in Parlkota LOS in the year 2000 and worked until 2002, he was then promoted as ACM and worked until 2003 then promoted to DVCM post and worked until 2014 in the Maad Division. In 2014, he was demoted from the post of DVCM and worked as ACM in Maad Supply team. He was promoted again to the post of DVCM in November 2016, in Maad Supply team and has been working as Deputy Commander in the Supply team since then.
He was involved in various criminal acts including 7 encounters – 07, I murder. Maharashtra Government had announced a reward of Rs. 16 lakhs for his arrest.
Due to the intensified operations conducted by the Gadchiroli Police, a total of 71 hardcore Maoists have been arrested since January 2022. This action was undertaken under the guidance of Mr. Neelotpal, Superintendent of Police, Anuj Tare, Additional Superintendent of Police (Ops.), Kumar Chintha, Additional Superintendent of Police (Admin.), and Yatish Deshmukh, Additional Superintendent of Police, Aheri.
Furthermore, Shri. Neelotpal, SP Gadchiroli, has appealed to active Maoist cadres to renounce the naxal fold and join the main stream of development and live a dignified life.
