Five persons arrested within 12 hours for extorting a lady doctor.

Gadchiroli Aug. 5 (District correspondent) The Nagpur based journalist and 4 others have been arrested by Armori Police for extorting money from a lady doctor within just 12 hours of the incident.

According to reports, one Dr Sonali Dhatrak lodged a complaint with the Armori Police Station that on 3/8/23 and 4/8/23 some persons from Nagpur approached her hospital and also her husband working in the Sub District Hospital Armori and demanded an extortion sum of Rs. 5 lakhs saying that ‘you are engaged in illegal work and we will publish the matter in the media’ and will defame you’.

When the complainant and her husband refused to pay the amount, the culprits forced his way into her house and snatched Rs 1 lakh from her purse and ran away. They later on called the doctor and threatened her with her life if she did not pay the remaining amount of Rs. 4 lakhs.

The police station immediately registered a case under Section 395, 450, 385, 506 of the Indian Penal Code after the death threats were made over the phone.

Seeing the seriousness of the matter, Superintendent of Police Mr. Nilotpal formed a joint team of the local crime branch and Police Station Armori and sent them to Nagpur to search for the accused.

As soon as the order was received, the joint team rushed to Nagpur and carried out a combing operation at night and arrested five accused namely Amit Bandre, Dinesh Kumbhare, Vinay Deshbhratar, Roshan Barmase and Sunil Borkar along with the vehicle used in the crime.

Some of these accused have a criminal background and the police is investigating further about them. Among the accused, Amit Bandre is running a YouTube news channel called News Report.

Under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Mr. Nilotpal, Additional Superintendent of Police Mr. Kumar Chinta, Sub Divisional Police Officer Mr. Sahil Zarkar, a joint team of Local Crime Branch Gadchiroli and Police Station Armori arrested the accused within 12 hours and brought the serious crime to light.
