Gadchiroli Jan. 25 (District Correspondent) A meeting of District Filaria Removal Coordination Committee was held under the chairmanship of District Collector Sanjay Meena at the collectorate here on Tuesday.
Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad Kumar Ashirwad, Assistant Director of Health Services Dr. Shyam Nimgade, World Health Organization Consultant of Nagpur Division Dr. Bhagyashree Trivedi, District Malaria Officer Dr. Kunal Modak were prominently present.
The campaign will be taken up in Armori and Chamorshi talukas of the district. For this, District Coordinating Committee has been formed under the guidance of Collector Sanjay Meena.
Filaria is an infectious disease caused by the Culex mosquito. Culex mosquitoes breed in large quantities in dirty water, sewers, and sewage. Evil mosquito bites humans and releases disease germs on the skin. These germs enter the body through the skin and enter the lymph nodes.
The time period for the germs to settle in the body and the symptoms of the disease to appear is 8 to 16 months. If the blood is not checked and the medication is not taken within the said period, germs grow in the body. The symptoms like swelling and ovarian enlargement are seen. Filaria germs are found in large quantities in human blood and it can be diagnosed after taking a blood sample between 8 and 12 pm, it was informed in the meeting.
This disease can be completely eradicated by taking a dose according to the age. All three medicines will be provided in every home free of charge by the health department staff and should not be taken on an empty stomach. The children under 2 years of age and pregnant women as well as critical patients should not be given this medicine. For effective implementation of universal medicine campaign as well as eradication of elephantiasis, everybody should take the medicine, appealed Mr. Meena and gave necessary instructions to the Health Department regarding increasing public participation in the campaign.
