Gadchiroli Feb. 14 (District Correspondent) The Gondwana University has decided to confer honorary D. Lit. degrees to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Forest, Cultural Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar.
The important decision was finalized in a special meeting of the Senate that was held in the University today under the chairmanship of the vice Chancellor Dr. Prashant Bokare, it has been informed by the University.
In accordance with the provisions of section 129(1) (2) of the Maharashtra Public University Act 2016, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Prashant Bokare had proposed these names to the Chancellor of the Universities for conferring honorary degrees of the University to these leaders. Accordingly, the names of Mr. Fadnavis and Mungantiwar have been approved by the Chancellor, informed the University office in a press release issued here this evening.
Under Section 129(1) of the Maharashtra Public Universities Act 2016, there is a provision that the Vice-Chancellor may, with the approval of the Chancellor, grant an honorary degree to any person, without compelling him to appear for any test or examination or evaluation of examination, merely on account of his meritorious standing and public service.
It is also provided that the Management Council of the university may consider and recommend to the Senate the conferment of such honorary degree or other academic distinction on such person on their grounds of merit. alone. Accordingly, in the management council meeting held on December 04, 2023, the names of Mr. Fadnavis and Mungantiwar were recommended to the Senate.
The matter was then placed before the meeting of the Senate held today to obtain its consent for the conferment of Honorary Degree (D.Lit.) of the University on the two ministers in the Maharashtra cabinet. The matter was approved unanimously, said the release. The senate meeting was held under the chairmanship of the vice chancellor Dr. Prashant Bokare.
Therefore, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Minister for cultural Affairs Sudhir Mungantiwar will be awarded D. Lit. degrees, it has been informed.
