Pandharpur March 21 (Our Correspondent, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Satyagraha for the water of Chavdar Tank at Mahad on 20th March 1927was a fight for equality and human liberation, said Mr. D. K. Sakhre, State Secretary of All India Republican Party. He was speaking at a program organized at Mangalvedha on the occasion of ‘Mahad Satyagraha Day’.
Speaking further, Mr. Sakhre said; Water is the natural right of human beings. The animals like dogs, cats, pigs etc. could drink the tank water at Mahad but untouchables, though human beings made of bones and flesh, could not drink it which was very unfortunate and shameful.
Dr. Babasaheb had said during the agitation of Chawdar Tank that; we would not die because we don’t drink the tank water, nor did we become immortal because of drinking it. But this Satyagraha is to prove that we too are human beings. Even though 96 years have passed since this Satyagraha, casteism has not disappeared. The activists of Babasaheb Ambedkar’s movement are being targeted by the established system and it is the need of the hour for all members of society to come together and fight against this.
At this time Bharatmukti Morcha’s Adv. Sitaram Sonawale, Sudarshan Maharaj Khadkikar, Republican Party’s Solapur District President Samadhan Kamble, District General Secretary Srimant Athavale, Mohol Taluka President Uttam Gaikwad, Bhalchandra Kapse were present besides a large number of citizens.
