Gadchiroli Nov. 17 (District Correspondent) Birsa Munda was a great revolutionary and patriotic who fought and laid down his life for the country. There are several other revolutionaries from the tribal community who sacrificed for the freedom struggle. The history and work of these revolutionaries needs to be reached to the younger generation, said Central vice President of All India Republican Party Mr. Rohidas Raut, while speaking at the birth anniversary of Krantiveer Bhagwan Birsa Munda that was celebrated at village Rangi in Dhanora taluka on Wednesday.

Gondwana Gotul Bahu Uddeshiya Sanstha and Gondwana Gond Mahasabha had jointly organized this programme.

The programme was inaugurated at the hands of Mr. Rohodas Raut. Social worker Charandas Pendam, presided over the proghramme while Mr. Sandeep Warkhade, tribal leader, Madhao Gawad of Adiwasi employees Federation, Prashant Madavi of Gondwana Gantantra Party, Kulpati Meshram of Republican Party, Ms. Faleshwari Gedam, Sarpancha of Rangi, Mamta Hichami, social worker were prominently present.

Mr. Gawad said tribal youths should educate and gain major positions in various fields and thereby work for the betterment of the society. The inspiration of Birsa Munda and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar will be useful for the youths in their future.

Mr. Prashant Madavi said the traditions and culture of tribals have a great importance and it should be preserved and carried forward. There is a need of more awareness among the tribals about the real history of tribals and the educated youths should do this work for the progress of the society, he appealed.

In his presidential speech, Mr. Pendam said the work of Birsa Munda will always be inspirational to the entire countrymen and his dedication will be remembered for the years together.

At the outset, the statue of Birsa Munda was garlanded and a huge ‘Koya Punem’ rally was taken out in the village from the Birsa Chouk that moved through the main streets and culminated into a public meeting at the public ground. A Gondi Dharma flag was hoisted by Mr. Prashant Madavi and Bhushankumar Katenge, the tribal leaders, to mark the beginning of the programme. Traditional tribal dances were also presented.

Mr. Ramchandra Katenge made an introductory speech, Mr. Ghanshyam Madavi and Sadaram Halami conducted the programme and also proposed the vote of thanks. Mr. Kishor Kulmethe proposed the vote of thanks. A large number of tribals and villagers attended the programme.
