Gadchiroli May 8 (District Correspondent) ‘The revolutionary work done by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar has no parallel. A tremendous change and progress has occurred in the life of the Dalits due to his struggle. He was a guiding star for the entire country and will give a direction to the citizens for the times to come’.
This was stated by Prof. Ashok Godghate, well known Ambedkarite thinker while speaking at the unveiling of the statue of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar at village Jamgiri in Chamorshi taluka on Sunday.
The programme was organized by Panchasheel bouddha Samaj and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Smarak Samiti, Jamgiri which was presided over by Mr. Rohidas Raut, Central vice President of All India Republican Party. Mr. Prabhu Rajgadkar, noted litterateur, Marotrao Kamble, senior Republican leader, Vilas Bhongade, social activist, Dr. Dawal Salwe, District Health Officer, Manikrao Ture, Gautam Meshram, Block Education Officer, Bhashkardada Bhagat, social worker, Bhaiyyaji Wadhai, Sarpancha were the chief guests.
Prof. Godghate further said Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar not only fought for the social issues, he also worked for the national interests. Much before the Quit India movement, he had asked the Britishers to leave the country as he felt that the power of the country can be gained by Dalits only in the Indian regime and not the Britishers. Babasaheb always gave priority to the country, he pointed out.
The revolution of social change made by Dr. Ambedkar is historic one which will not be seen in the entire world. The revolutions in other countries had no origin in their religious books, but Ambedkar had to fight against the things mentioned in our ancient religious thoughts. This task was not so easy but he did it. That is why this revolution is different from that of the others, he mentioned.
Mr. Rajgadkar said Dr. Ambedkar had a multi-dimensional personality. He worked in different spheres of life and gave a new direction to the society. His vision and policies on the various issues was path finding and are relevant even today. It is not outdated even today. The thoughts of state socialism, Constitution of India will, struggle for women’s empowerment etc will always be remembered and will be a guiding principle for the Indian state and the people, he asserted. Mr. Rajgadkar called upon the people to emulate his ideals and march ahead for the well-being of the society.
In his presidential speech, Mr. Rohidas Raut said that the work of Dr. Ambedkar has become more powerful in all these years and is being accepted by different sections of society. The tribals, OBCs, minorities and backwards find their messiah in him. This is the greatness of his work and thoughts. These thoughts are needed to be propagated further. He appreciated the villagers for their venture of raising the attractive statue of Dr. Ambedkar in a small village like Jamgiri.
