Gadchiroli July 9 (District Correspondent) A dharna agitation was staged by Rashtriya Adiwasi Ekta Parishad in front of the Collector’s office here on Mponday. A memorandum was submitted to the state and central government through the district collector after this agitation. The agitation was a part of the country wide agitation called by the Adiwasi Parishad and this was the first stage of the movement.
The agitation was staged to protest against the unjust oppression of tribals and to oppose the implementation of Uniform Civil Code. The Uniform civil code means destruction of tribal identity. The fifth and sixth schedule of the constitution of India will be destroyed and tribals will lose their identity and culture, it was alleged in the memorandum.
India still has social inequality in large scale and applying uniform civil code to all the citizens is very dangerous for tribals. In the name of development, environment is being destroyed, tribals are being displaced in large numbers. It is a conspiracy of the government to displace the tribals and grab their water, forest and land. The government’s policy is to grab the agricultural lands of the tribals around the highway and build big factories is also against the interests of the tribals, it stated further.
Forest Act has created a threat to the existence of tribals. In the tribal areas, tribal culture is being encroached upon and the very existence of the tribals has been endangered. A conspiracy is going on to destroy the culture of naive tribals and enslave them in the name of religion, it has also been alleged.
Mr. Nitin Pada, Bhojraj Kanekar, Janardan Taksande, Dinesh Vadde, Ganesh Matami, Santosh Vadde, Sudhakar Potavi, Vishal Narote, Vasudev Holi, Santosh Madavi, Mahadev Pada, Vilas Narote, Ganesh Vadde, Malta Puda, Sainath Pungati, Harishchandra Kannake and others participated in the agitation.
