Gadchiroli June 6 (District Correspondent) The ‘Thiyya Andolan’ of the farmers started in front of the collectorate was finally withdrawn following the assurance of the co guardian minister Adv. Ashish Jaiswal to temporarily postpone the process of the land acquisition for the proposed airport.
The minister however explained that the final decision in this regard will be taken by the chief minister indicating that an axe of uncertainty hangs on the neck of the farmers.
The leaders of the Shetkari Sangharsha Samiti however agreed to the assurance and declared to withdraw the agitation. Most of the farmers, who had come to Gadchiroli with full preparedness to continue the agitation till the very proposal of acquiring their fertile lands is not cancelled, were seen quite disappointed with the decision and went back to their villages.
Earlier in the day, Gadchiroli MLA Dr. Milind Narote visited the agitation site and talked to the farmers. He assured the agitators to bring the issue to the notice of the government. He talked to the co guardian minister and apprised him with the situation.
Accordingly, Mr. Jaiswal reached the site in the evening and called the representatives of the farmers for discussion at the collectorate. After a marathon discussion for about more than four hours, the minister agreed to postpone the land acquisition process temporarily declaring that the final decision in the matter will be taken by the chief minister.
The other issue for which the agitation was started- the acquisition of land of 14 villages in Bhendala area in Chamorshi taluka for MIDC remained neglected. The farmers from these 14 villages therefore became quite disappointed and blamed the leaders of the agitation for not resolving their issue.
Along with Mr. Jaiswal, MLA Dr. Narote, incharge district collector Nitin Gawande, SP M. Ramesh were present besides the leaders of the Shetkari Sangharsha Samiti.
