Gadchiroli June 5 (District Correspondent) Holding Municipal Council Water Supply Commiittee Chairman Leeladhar Bharadkar and the officials of the municipal council responsible for the drinking water scarcity in the city, the Congress councillors of the city have demanded immediate resignation from Bharadkar and stern action against the concerned officials.

Addressing a press conference at the Press Club here this afternoon, Mr. Satish Vidhate, senior councillor and group leader of the Congress Party in the council, told the people of Gadchiroli have been facing acute drinking water problem because of the irresponsible attitude of the water supply department officials and chairman Bharadkar.

The city of Gadchiroli is facing unprecedented drinking water problem. The citizens have not faced such problem all these years. Had the council administration and office bearers made the arrangements well in advance, the citizens would not have faced this problem, told Mr. Vidhate.

River Wainganga has a sufficient storage of water, if the water at another side was diverted to the supply well, the problem would have been resolved easily without spending money for the construction of a bandhara. The water requirement of the city could have been fulfilled without getting the water from Gose Khurd Project, pointed out Mr. Shrikant Deshmukh, another councillor and member of the water supply committee who was also present at the press conference.

The bandhara constructed by the council has become useless because if the water from Gose Khurd is flown into the river, this bandhara will collapse immediately and the lakhs of rupees spent on it will also go waste, Deshmukh told. What was the intention of the council office bearers to construct this bandhara that too half a way, is a big question, he stated.

We had already suggested the measures about resolving the water problem in February and March itself, but the chairman and the officials ignored it and now the citizens have to face the consequences, told Deshmukh and Vidhate.

The present water scarcity in the city of Gadchiroli is an artificial scarcity and not the natural one. This has happened only because of the careless and irresponsible attitude of Bharadkar and the officials., both Mr. Deshmukh and Vidhate alleged and demanded that Bharadkar should immediately step down. A stringent action should be taken against the officials concerned, the also demanded.

Also present at the press conference were all the councillors namely Ramesh Chaudhari, Parag Poreddiwar, Nandu Kayarkar, Megha Wargantiwar and Manisha Kheole.
