Farmers launch massive ‘Thiyya Andolan’ to oppose acquisition of farm lands.

Gadchiroli June 4 (District Correspondent) The farmers from several villages have launched their ‘Thiyya Andolan’ in front of the collectorate here from this morning to protest against the acquisition of their agricultural land for the airport and the MIDC.

The thousands of farmers reached Gadchiroli along with their bullock carts and ration reached the district headquarters in the morning to participate in the agitation that has been started under the aegis of ‘Shetkari Sangharsh Samiti’.

Sitting under the shadow of trees in a space between the collector office and the Zilla Parishad shouted slogans in support of their demand and expressed their determination to fight for their fertile lands and not to go back until they get justice.

The chief convenor of the Sangharsha Samiti Mahendra Bramhanwade is leading this agitation and various political parties and social organizations have extended their full support.

They included Adv. Vishwajeet Kowase, district chief of Congress Party, Dr. Mahesh Kopulwar of the Communist Party of India, Rohidas Raut, Hansraj Undirwade of the Republican Party, Prof. Prashant Dewhare of the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, Wasudev Shedmake of Shiv Sena, Amol Marakwar of the CPM, Madhav Gawad of the Adiwasi Congress, Bhashkar Meshram of BSP, Raj Bansod of ASP, Adv. Kavita Mohorkar of the Advocates Association, Haridas Kotrange of the Mali Samaj Sangathana, Dadaji Chafle of the Kunbi Sewa Samiti, Prof. Sheshrao Yelekar of the Rashtriya OBC Mahasangha, Mr. Manohar Poretti, Adv. Lalsu Nogoti, senior tribal leader, Dewrao Chawde.

The leaders declared their total support to the farmer’s agitation and and promised that they will stand with the farmers ttill their demand is fulfilled by the government.

Murlidhar Maharaj of the Markanda Deo Temple and Armori MLA Ramdas Masram also visited agitation and declared their support to the agitation. Mr. Masram demanded that the agricultural lands of the farmers should not be acquired for the airport and industries and assured that the issue will be taken up with the state government.

Many of the farmers including age old women also voluntarily spoke during the agitation and said that they will not hand over their fertile lands for the airport or the MIDC. A large number of the women farmers also participated in the agitation.

Mr. Mahendra Bramhanwade declared that the agitation will continue peacefully and it will not be withdrawn until the state government does not withdraw its proposal of setting up the airport on the farm lands.

Elaborate security arrangements were made by the police department for this agitation. It was the massive agitation of the farmers in the recent past. The Sangharsha Samiti workers Satish Vidhate, Shrikant Deshmukh, Diwakar Misar, Vasant Raut, Jawed Khan, Pralhad Raipure, Anil Kothare, Milind Khobragade, Rajesh Thakur, Netaji Gawture, Dilip Ghodam and many others looked after the arrangements.
