
Gadchiroli June 4 (District Correspondent) Ms. Kusumtai Alam, National Coordinator of the Adivasi Congress and in-charge for Telangana has sought the intervention of the Congress leadership into the large-scale acquisition of the tribal lands in the district for the corporates.
Ms. Alam attended the ‘Adivasi Professional Conclave’ organized by the ‘All India Adivasi Congress’ at the AICC headquarters, ‘Indira Bhavan,’ in New Delhi on Wednesday and highlighted the issue.
She also submitted a detailed memorandum to the Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and urged him to look into the matter and save the Gadchiroli farmers’ valuable agricultural lands.
She pointed out that fertile lands are currently being acquired by the government despite massive opposition from local farmers. Mr. Rahul Gandhi responded positively to this matter, listening attentively and seriously to all the issues raised. He affirmed that he stands firmly in solidarity with the farmers.
Mr. Gandhi promised that to gain a firsthand understanding of the situation, Mr. K. Raju, Head of the SC-ST-OBC- Minorities Department would soon visit Gadchiroli to hold discussions with the farmers.
The Delhi event brought together on a single platform renowned Adivasi professionals, intellectuals, and representatives who have made significant contributions in the social, cultural, educational, and literary spheres, in order to discuss various issues concerning the community’s empowerment, unity, and future development.
