Education department fails to honour teachers on Teacher’s Day.

Gadchiroli Sept. 8 (District Correspondent) The education department of the Gadchiroli Zilla Parishad has abruptly failed in honoring the teachers with the Ideal Teachers award which has sent a wave of severe discontent among the teacher’s community in the district.

Every year teachers from the Zilla Parishad schools are felicitated with an ‘Ideal Teacher’ award on Teachers Day -Sept. 5 to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan. Teachers showing outstanding performance in academic and other related fields are selected for this award and they are ceremoniously honoured at the hands of the dignitaries by presenting them special certificates and mementos.

However, education department of the Zilla Parishad forgot to organize the Teachers Day programme this year and the teachers are deprived of the felicitation. When asked about this, Mr. Babasaheb Bhosle, Education Officer (Primary) told that there are holidays continuously for two three days hence the programme hence the programme could not be organized. The programme will be held on Sept. 11 next, he informed and the process of selection of ideal teachers is completed, Paward told.

Education Officer (secondary) Mr. Vasudeo Bhuse told that the teachers from Zilla Parishad High Schools are not given the district level awards. The names of the teachers are recommended for the state level awards only.

The representatives of various teachers’ organizations have expressed their disappointment over the education department’s failure to felicitate the teachers. Mr. Ajay Londhe, General Secretary of Vidarbha Madhyamik Shikshak Sangh told that it is a great insult of the teachers. It is the utter failure of the education department.

Mr. Dhanpal Misar, District President of Prathamik Shikshak Samiti said the teachers render the services of imparting education to the students throughout the year and Teachers Day is the only occasion to honour them. The negligence of the education department has snatched away this opportunity from the teachers.

Mr. Raghunath Bhandekar, District President of Prathamik shikshak Sangha said the teacher’s day programme should be organized on the given date of Sept. 5 itself. It should be ensured that no such mistake occurs again. We will ask the education department about this failure.

Prof. Sheshrao Yelekar, Working President of Dr. Punjabrao Deshmukh Shikshak Parishad it is not at all fair to postpone the programme on the pretext of holidays. This shows the negligent attitude of the education department towards the teachers.

Mr. Mansaram Meshram, District Secretary of Swatantra Samta Shikshak Sangha termed the ZP action as unfortunate adding it shows its attitude towards the teachers. There is s strong discontent among the teachers over this act, he added.

Enquiries into the matter further revealed that there was delay by the education department in finalising the selection list of the teachers for the award. The list has to be approved by the Dy. Director of Education and this could not be done before date hence the programme could not be organized.
