Gadchiroli Sept. 27 (District Correspondent) A woman was killed on the spot this evening near village Shantigram on Ashti Allapalli Road when she was dashed by a truck carrying iron ore from Surjagad Hills.

The name of the deceased woman is given as Bijoli Jaydar, resident of village Kanchanpur in Mulchera taluka. Enraged over the incident, villagers set around 8 trucks on fire and the police had to rush to the spot to handle the situation.

According to reports, the woman was going on a bike from Aheri to Kanchanpur along with her husband when she was dashed by a truck from behind in which she died on the spot. Her husband Subhash Jaydar also sustained minor injuries in the accident.

On getting information, the villagers rushed to the spot and burnt down the trucks plying on the road. The police also reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

There has been a strong opposition by the local people on Ashti- Allapalli road to stop the traffic of trucks during day time as there is always a possibility of accidents and a lot of dust. The traders from Allapalli had even observed indefinite bandh to press the demand very recently upon which a joint meeting of the Surjagad officers, traders and public representatives was convened at the collectorate to discuss the issue. However, the traffic has been going on.

The heavy traffic of trucks carrying Surjagad iron ore on the road has badly damaged the road with several pits on it and it has become quite difficult for the travellers to play their vehicles for the last few months.

As the woman was killed in the accident caused by the Surjagad truck today, the people in the area were angered and they set the trucks on fire.
