Gadchiroli May 20 (District Correspondent) Five Maoists, who were actively involved in many violent activities against the security forces, have been arrested by the Gadchiroli Police Force and CRPF today and have been taken into custody for further legal action as there is no concrete evidence regarding the age of the other two Maoists.

Due to the effective action, the Gadchiroli Police Force has succeeded in arresting a total of 103 Maoists since January 2022.

On the basis of confidential information that 50 to 60 Maoists had gathered in Binagunda village under Bhamragad Sub-division, 8 teams of C-60 Force and A Company 37 Battalion were dispatched to the said forest area on Sunday. While these teams were conducting anti-Maoist operation, they surrounded Binagunda village with a heavy gun and started searching the village. When some suspects wearing green-black uniforms and some in plain clothes with weapons were seen planning to ambush the police team, the police team arrested five Maoists along with their weapons. Other Maoists managed to escape from the place by taking advantage of the village and the forest area.

The arrested Maoists have been identified as Ungi Mangru Hoyam alias Sumali (DVCM, Platoon No. 32), resident of Palli, Tal. Bhairamgad, Dist. Bijapur, Pallavi Kesa Medium alias Bundi (PPCM, Platoon No. 32), resident of Konchal, Tal. Avapalli, Dist. Bijapur, Deve Kosa Podiyam alias Sabita (Member, Platoon No. 32), resident of Marot Baka Tal. Avapalli, Dist. Bijapur and two other Maoists.

During further investigation, it has come to light that all the five were active Maoists and had entered the Binagunda forest area with the intention of carrying out an ambush. A total of 7 weapons including 1 SLR rifle, 1 -303 rifle, 3 single shot rifle, 2 loaded guns, 3 walkie talkies and other materials have been seized from the arrested Maoists.

The tree Maoists were arrested today but since there is no concrete evidence regarding the age of the other two Maoists, they have been presented before the Juvenile Justice Board and further action is in progress.

The Maharashtra Government had announced a reward of Rs. 16 lakh on Ungi, Rs. 08 lakh each on Pallavi and Deve. The said action was taken by Special IG (ANO) Mr. Sandeep Patil, DIG (Gadchiroli) Ankit Goyal, DIG (Operations) CRPF Ajay Kumar Sharma, SP Mr. Nilotpal, Commandant of 37 Bn. CRPF, Dao Injirkan Kindo, Additional SP (Operations) Yatish Deshmukh, Additional SP (Administration) M. Ramesh, Additional SP Aheri Satya Sai Karthik, DySP (Operations) Vishal Nagargoje and SDPO Bhamragad Amar Mohite.
