In view of the increasing shortage of drinking water in the villages on the banks of the river in Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts and the demand for water for agriculture purposes, a sit-in protest was organized April 5 last in the Wainganga River basin along with hundreds of farmers sitting on the hot sand in the scorching heat.

After submitting a representation to the chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and making necessary follow up with the concerned ministers, district collectors and concerned officials through phone calls and correspondence, the administration has finally approved the release of 1 TMC water from Gosikhurd dam into the Wainganga River basin.

The release of this water will solve the problem of drinking water and water required for farmers’ agriculture in many villages on the banks of the river in Gadchiroli-Chandrapur districts, hoped Mr. Mahendra Bramhanwade.

This novel agitation had attracted wide spread attention of the administration and the people.

Meanwhile, Disaster Management Department, Gadchiroli has issued an important notice and has warned the citizens, farmers, fishermen and related administration agencies in the villages along the river.

Instructions have been given to warn the citizens through Talathi and Kotwal in all the villages in Wadsa, Armori and Chamorshi talukas on the banks of the Wainganga River.

Farmers cultivating in the river basin, fishermen, people taking cattle to the riverbank for drinking water, as well as all those constructing bridges and roads have been appealed to take necessary precautions.
