Gadchiroli Oct. 10 (District Correspondent) Well known Gandhian and health expert of the country Dr. Abhay Bang was honoured with the Badshah Khan Memorial Award -2024 by ITM University, Gwalior recently.
Mr. Ramashankar Singh, Founder of the ITM University, of the Ms. Ruchi Singh Chauhan, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Daulat Singh, Dr. Upadhyay, Gandhian thinker Nandkishore Acharya were prominently present on them occasion.
Khan Abdul Ghafar (Badshah) Khan Award is held for 8 consecutive years, in which individuals doing creative work movements in society that nurtures, preserves and promotes the flow of change. For this purpose, ITM University, Gwalior selected Dr. Abhay Bang for his unparalleled contribution to human service. Badshah Khan was a prominent national leader. He belonged to Peshawar region which is now in Pakistan. He inspired the Pathans for non-violent satyagraha.
Society for Education, Action and Research in Community Health (SEARCH) is an organization founded by Dr. Abhay Bang which has been doing Community Health in Gadchiroli District. A prominent Gandhian social activist and scientist working in the field of community health, he revolutionized healthcare services for poor people in India and continuing his services in one of the most backward regions of the world.
Dr. Bang spearheaded a program to reduce child mortality. His approach to treatment was endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and also approved by UNICEF. Also, this program is being implemented in some parts of Africa and all over India to reduce infant mortality.
Researched a new method, implemented it in the entire country under Asha Yojana. 1.5 crore children in India also benefited from this scheme. Dr. Abhay Bang was recognized as a ‘pioneer of healthcare in Rural India’
Dr. Bang was inducted into the Johns Hopkins Society of Scholars. Time magazine listed him among the 18 global health heroes and honored him and his wife Dr. Rani Bang. He has been running the ‘Muktipath’ project in the entire district to get rid of tobacco addiction. A program like ‘Tarunyabhan’ under NIRMAN also is being taken up by him.
Dr. Abhay and Dr. Rani Bang has been conferred with the prestigious ‘Maharashtra Bhushan’ and ‘Padma Shri’ awards besides around 70 other awards so far.
