Gadchiroli June 6 (District Correspondent) The newly elected Member of Parliament from Gadchiroli Chimur Lok Sabha Dr. Namdeo Kirsan has asserted that his priority would be to provide irrigation facilities to the farmers in the district using the water of the all-weather flowing rivers in the area.

Addressing a press conference at the district office of the congress Committee here for the first time after being elected, Dr. Kirsan said there are many rivers in the district but the farmers get no irrigation and their crops suffer. The issue will be raised on priority and efforts will be made to utilize the water for irrigation purposes, he said. If the forest clearance is given for the huge iron projects in the district, why not for the irrigation projects, he asked.

The health and education are the other sectors which will be focused and it will be ensured that the people get quality health treatment and education. Doctors will be asked to perform their duties properly and lapse in their work will not be tolerated, Dr. Kirsan said. Same thing will be done strictly about the school education, he added. Efforts will be made to make available employment to the youths and make them self-reliant.

The Congress party is committed to the caste wise census. We will also remove the 50 percent limit of reservation meant for the backward classes. The promises given in the Congress manifesto will be implemented, he said.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi built up confidence among the Congress workers. The INDIA alliance and Maha Vikas Aghadi also worked together in reaching the voters that led to my victory, Dr. Kirsan pointed out. BJP tried to polarise the voters in the name of religion for the sake of politics, its leaders openly spoke about changing the Constitution. People were quite annoyed over this and they foiled the efforts of BJP by giving their verdict in favour of INDIA allainace, he said.

Dr. Kirsan thanked the leaders and workers of the INDIA alliance and Maha Vikas Aghadi for their tireless efforts for the victory. He also thanked the voters of the constituency for getting him elected and assured to work whole heartedly for the development of the region.

Also present at the press conference were Mr. Mahendra Bramhanwade, District Congress President, Satish Vidhate, City chief, Ms. Kusum Alam, women leader, Sunil Chadgulwar, Pandurang Ghotekar, Rajnikant Motghare, Rupesh Tikle and others.
