Gadchiroli May 12 (District Correspondent) In two different operations conducted by Chamorshi and Ashti police in the last two days, an illicit liquor worth Rs. 26. 75 lakhs including vehicles was seized. Even after ban, liquor is sold and transported illegally in the district. On the orders of Superintendent of Police Nilotpal, action is being taken by the police everywhere to stop this illicit liquor.
The Chamorshi Police received confidential information that a white Scorpio car (MH 31, CP 3826) loaded with boxes of country and foreign liquor was kept in the open space behind the Agricultural Produce Market Committee. Accordingly, a team of PSI Duryodhan Rathod, Radha Shinde, driver Manoj Sindharam and Nayak Tadam headed by PSI Balaji Losarwar went to the spot and inspected it. The liquor bottles worth 3. 49 lakhs were found in it. Along with the boxes of liquor, a vehicle worth approximately Rs 4 lakh was seized. A case was registered in the Chamorshi police. In the second case, the Ashti police Incharge Vishal Kale learned that liquor was being transported from Gondpipri to Ghatkur by road. PSI Dayal and a team tried to stop the vehicle by barricading near Mahatma Phule College in Ashti. However, the driver tried to escape by hitting the barricading. But Chamorshi police a team set up a blockade near the office of Public Works Department and stopped the vehicle. When they searched the vehicle, country and foreign liquor worth 3.20 lakhs was found in it. A vehicle MH 32 AH-5556, was also seized.
A case has been registered under various sections against driver Nitesh Chandankhede (34) and his associate Nikhil Kshirsagar (21) from Bhadravati. PSI Atul Tarale is investigating the case.
Since the Code of Conduct for Lok Sabha General Elections started on 16th March, liquor and vehicles worth Rs. 1.82 crores have been seized by the police in the district. To curb the sale and transport of liquor, liquor, police had set up blockades at various places. A special campaign was implemented.
