Gadchiroli Feb. 11 (District Correspondent) Raising serious objection over the policy of prohibition of liquor going on in the district of Gadchiroli, Maharashtra Tribal and Backward People’s Action Committee (MTBPAC) has demanded impartial review of this policy.

Dr. Pramod Salwe, Chief Convenor of this Committee has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and other authorities in this regard through the District Collector.

The letter said that even though prohibition of liquor is in force in the district, large scale illicit liquor worth crores of rupees is being sold here. Many people, including youths and women and even students are involved in this illegal business. The life of these people is getting ruined as cases are being registered against them.

On the other hand, poisonous liquor is also being supplied due to which many people have died. The police are seizing a large amount of illicit liquor in the district which itself shows that the prohibition of liquor has remained just on the papers, Dr. Salwe has pointed out and asked whether this prohibition is encouraging the smuggling of liquor into the district.

All these issues need to be impartially checked and reviewed. The government should therefore constitute a committee to know the public opinion and review the present policy of liquor prohibition, Dr. Salwe has demanded. The memorandum has also been signed by Adv. Sanjay guru, Purushottam Bhagadkar, Santosh Tatikondiwar, Anil Meshram, Swapnil Pawar, Anwar Hussain, Roshni Pawar, Bhushan Sahare and others.
