Gadchiroli July 27 (District Correspondent) The tribal youths and students in the district staged intensive demonstrations at Indira Square of the city this afternoon to press the demand of recruitment of Talathis in the district as per PESA provisions. The agitating youths also shouted slogans against the MLAs and MP of the district for their alleged ‘anti tribal ‘approach in the recruitment.

A large number of youths and students from various parts of the district assembled at Indira Square and staged a march around the square holding placards in their hands and shouting slogans of their demands. The vehicular traffic in the square was affected for some time due to this march but the police handled the situation promptly and opened the traffic. The agitation continued for about three hours despite the heavy rains.

The youths then organized a meeting at the Indira Square and strongly demanded that the recruitment of Talathis be done as per PESA provision giving due reservation to the tribal candidates. The youths also condemned the approach of MLAs and MP of the district who had demanded with the state government that the recruitment be done as per the revised GR of the state government which provides the opportunity to the non- tribal candidates too.

The agitation will be intensified further if the government does not conduct the recruitment as per PESA, they warned saying that this Act has been framed for the protection and development of the tribal people as per the constitution of India.

A delegation of the youths then met the Resident Dy. Collector and submitted him a memorandum of demands addressed to the Governor of Maharashtra. The recruitment of non- tribal candidates be done in non PESA areas, CSR funds be spent on the development of the district were the other demands.

Youth leaders Mr. Suraj Kodape, Kunal Kowe, Vinod Madavi, Prashant Madavi led the agitation in which hundreds of youths participated. M r. Vasantrao Kulsange of Veer Baburao Samiti, Gulabrao Madavi, former Councillor, Raj Bansod of Movement for Justice, Hansraj Undirwade of Repubulican Party, Amol Kulmethe of NCP also participated and extended their support to the agitation.
