Gadchiroli Aug. 23 (District Correspondent) The Congress Party workers staged ‘Ghantanad’ agitation in front of the offices of the MP and MLA here the other day.
A large number of Congress workers first and played the bells in front of the office of Gadchiroli- Chimur shouting slogans in support of their demand of declaring entire Gadchiroli district as wet drought affected. Later on they submitted a memorandum to the office of the MP.
Due to heavy rainfall in the district, the flood situation is constantly occurring and due to the overflow of water coming from Meddigadda and Gosekhurd projects, flood situation has been created due to which the farmers of the district have faced a crisis of double- triple sowing. Due to this, there was a huge financial loss on the farmers. Even the farmer in the district started to commit suicide. Despite such a situation, the MLAs and MPs of the district did not raise their voices to provide financial assistance to the farmers of the district from the state government. This raises a question whether the MLAs and public representatives of the district are in a state of slumber and doing nothing, alleged the memorandum.
The Chief Minister and deputy chief minister of the state have visited the district, but no substantial funds have been provided to the affected farmers in the district. To wake up the government and the local MLAs and MPs and to demand the declaration of wet drought in the district this agitation was staged, said District Congress President Mahendra Bramhanwade while speaking on the occasion.
State General Secretary and District Incharge Dr. Namdev Kirsan strongly criticized the local public representatives for their alleged negligence towards the plights of the farmers and demanded immediate relief to the flood affected.
