Gadchiroli Jan. 23 (District correspondent) As many as 6 women were drowned in Wainganga River near village Ganpur in Chamorshi taluka when a boat they were travelling in capsized in the water. The tragic incident took place at around 11 this morning due to which a pall of gloom has spread a reign of grief in the village.
According to reports, 7 women from village Ganpur namely Pushpa Mukteshwar Zade (45), Jijabai Dadaji Raut (55), Revanta Harichdra Zade (40), Sushma Sachin Raut (24), Mayabai Ashok Raut (45), Budhabai Devaji Raut (58) and Sarubai Kasture, all the residents of village Ganpur were going to Chandrapur district by crossing a boat for the labour work of plucking chillies. As the boat was sailing, it suddenly capsized in the Wainganga River waters in the middle of the river and all the six women drowned. The boat driver however succeeded in saving one-woman Sarubai Kasture and himself.
On getting information, police reached the spot and started search operation to find out the drowned women. Till the filing of this report, bodies of 2 women were found and other 4 are still missing. The names of those whose bodies have been recovered are given as Jijabai Raut and Pushpa Zade. The search is continuing by the team of Disaster Management.
As the news of the accident spread in the area, large number of people also reached the spot to see the situation and many of them assisted the rescue team in searching the drowned women.
Meanwhile Gadchiroli Chimur Lok Sabha MP Ashok Nete reached the spot and enquired about the incident. Additional SP Kumar Chinta, SDO Uttam Todsam, Chamorshi Tehsildar Prashant Ghorude, Gadchiroli SDPO Mayur Bhujbal also reached the spot and supervised the rescue operations.
