Gadchiroli Sept. 7 (District Correspondent) The Gadchiroli Zilla Parishad’s education department has once gain shown its apathy towards the teachers by not organizing the ‘Teachers Day’ on Sept. 5 this year too.

When the entire country was observing the Teachers Day in honour of the teacher’s community, there was no any programme at the Zilla Parishad. The thousands of teachers working in the district, therefore, had to be disappointed.

The ‘Teachers Day’ was not celebrated in the last two years also for the reasons best known to the authorities concerned and such incidents of skipping the celebration have taken place in the past too on some occasions.

When asked, the Education Officer V. P. Nakade told this correspondent that the list of the ‘ideal teachers’ has already been prepared but the programme could not be organized on the teachers Day. He however could not give any specific reason for the postponement of such an important programme and told it will be organized shortly.

Teachers Day is very important event in the life of the teachers and the entire teacher’s community keeps on waiting for this event very eagerly. Due to the apathetic attitude of the administration however the teachers had to miss the event. Teachers honoured with the ideal teacher award not only get the recognition for their performance but also become eligible for some additional benefits. After a due process at the panchayat samiti and Zilla Parishad level, ideal teachers are selected. Naturally, the selected teachers, their families and the entire teacher’s community thus is quite anxious for the programme. However, all of them were disappointed this year’s Teachers Day.

Many teachers’ organizations in the district have taken strong objections to the attitude of the Zilla Parishad administration and have expressed their utter displeasure over not holding the programme on the scheduled date.

Mr. Dhanpal Misar, district President of Prathamik Shikshak samiti said that this all has happened due to negligence and delayed procedure of the administration. The programme should have been arranged on Sept 5 itself. This is a sort of insult to the teachers, he added.

Mr. Raghunath Bhandekar, District President of Prathamik Shikshak Sangha said the Teachers Day has its own importance and the programme should be arranged on that day alone. It is a sacred day for the teachers. If the programme can be organized at the state level, why can’t it be held at the district level, he asked.

Meanwhile as many as 4 teachers from the district have been selected for this year’s state level teachers award. Their names have been given as Mr. Sujay Bachhad from ZP Primary School Ganeshnagar in Mulchera taluka, Ms. Jayshree Khonde from Dharmarao Krishi Vidyalaya, Aheri, Ashok Borkute from ZP School, Mohurli in Mulchera taluka and Dilip Nakade from ZP Primary school, Jaitanpur in Korchi taluka.

Mr. Rajkumar Ghodeswar, State vice President of Castribe Teachers Association also expressed his displeasure over the delay of the education department saying the programme must have been held on the Teachers Day only to maintain the importance of the day.
