Gadchiroli July 6 (District Correspondent) Two brothers were drowned in a farm pond at Shirpur in Kurkheda taluka this morning.
The deceased children have been identified as Vihan Dnyaneshwar Madavi (12, resident of Shirpur) and Ruday Dnyaneshwar Madavi (11), resident of Gadchiroli.
According to reports, Ruday had gone to his aunt’s house in village Shirpur. Since Sunday was a holiday, both Vihan and Ruday planned to go for swimming in the farm pond. Without informing anybody in the family, they proceeded to farm pond near the village belonging to one Nakish Madavi on bicycle. They took off their clothes and slippers and put the bicycle at the bank of the farm pond and entered the farm pond. As the children could not anticipate the depth of the water and neither of them could swim, the children drowned in the water.
The villagers passing through the site saw clothes, slippers and bicycle on the bank of the farm pond but the children were not seen. Footprints of the children entering the farm pond were seen. Finally, the bodies of both the children were seen floating on the water of the pond upon which villagers rushed and took out the bodies. The bodies were then sent for postmortem to the sub district hospital of Kurkheda.
It was the day of Ashadhi Ekadashi festival today and all the villagers were in a festive mood. however on getting the tragic news of the two children’s drowning, the whole atmosphere turned into mourning.
