Gadchiroli Sept. 5 (District Correspondent) A tragic incident of the death of two children due to treatment of the local Vaidu took place in the district. To add to this tragedy, the parents had to carry the bodies of these children on their shoulders walking 15 kilometres on foot to reach their native place for the last rites.

Bajirao Ramesh Weladi (6) and Dinesh Ramesh Weladi (3), the residents of village Yerragadda in Aheri taluka, are the names of those unfortunate children. The horrific incident took place at village Pattigaon in Aheri taluka yesterday Sept. 4 due to which quite a sensation has prevailed in the entire district.

According to information, both Bajirao and Dinesh had gone to village Pattigaon along with their parents to their grandfather. As they had fever, the children were taken to a local Vaidu who gave them some medicine (jadibutti). However, the health of the children deteriorated after this treatment.

While Bajirao breathed his last at around 10.30 am, Dinesh too died by 12 noon. After that the children were taken to the nearby Jimalgatta Primary Health Centre for the medical treatment but it had become too late. The doctors at Jimalgatta examined both the children and declared them dead.

The tragedy did not stop here only. There was no ambulance at Jimalgatta PHC to carry the bodies to the native place Yerragadda. The doctors were arranging to call the ambulance from Dechlipetha but it was not possible to ply the vehicle on the road as it was full of nullahs and mud. The parents finally took the children on their shoulders and started on foot to reach their village.

Meanwhile, Dr. Pratap Shinde told the reporters here that the children had already died before they were taken to the hospital. The exact reason behind the death is not ascertained. A vehicle was being arranged but the parents did not listen. An enquiry is being conducted into the incident.

Several incidents of innumerable sufferings of the tribals living in the remote areas have been taking place in lack of roads, transport and health facilities, especially during the rainy days. The people have been facing the situation as if they are born for this. The government and the administration has miserably failed in providing the basic facilities to the people. When will the people be freed from this pathetic situation is a million dollar question.
