Gadchiroli July 27 (District Correspondent) The son had to carry his old father on a cot and walk for 18 kilometres in the mud to take the father to the hospital who was injured while doing agricultural work. The river was full on the way but the helpless son crossed the river by boat and admitted the father the hospital. The name of the injured father is Malu Kaye Majji (67), a resident of village Bhatpar in Bhamragarh taluka.

Heavy rain has been going on in the district for the last over eight days. Bhamragarh town is still disconnected because of the flood in Parlkota river. Malu Majji had gone to work in the fields as usual on July 26. His feet slipped in the mud and he got injured. So, it became difficult for him to walk and move around. There was no other option but to go to Bhamragarh hospital, 18 km from Bhatpar, to take the father who was suffering in pain.

There was no vehicle, the only way was to walk through the mud. Thus, his son Pusu Malu Majji prepared a cot with the help of his friends and put Malu on it and left for Bhamragarh. Pusu Malu and three to four of his friends reached the Pamulagautam river by walking through the mud.

The river was overflowing, but Pusu Malu and his friends did not lose courage and crossed the river by putting a cot in the boat. From there again they took Malu Majji to the Rural Hospital of Bhamragarh. There, the doctor examined and gave the necessary treatment. A leg of Malu was found to be fractured. After the treatment, the son took his father on the cot again and returned home to Bhatpar. The doctor advised the son to go to the district hospital for surgery on Malu Majji’s leg. However, the son was disappointed as the contact with Gadchiroli was lost due to flood.

The people and the patients are suffering a lot due to flood and lack of roads and transport facilities in remote areas for the last so many years. Their life has become quite miserable and full of difficulties but they have been facing all this mutely with the government not doing anything concrete to improve the situation.

A few days ago, a man had to carry his son on his shoulders crossing through the river. A four-year-old boy lost his life because an ambulance was not available on time. Now an old man had to be carried on a cot and walk for 18 kilometers to reach the hospital, that itself tells the story of Gadchiroli district.
