Gadchiroli Dec. 7 (District Correspondent) The ‘no work’ agitation started by sanitation workers of the Gadchiroli Municipal Council, which had been going on for the past three days, was finally called off today following the intervention of some leaders and subsequent assurance of the municipal authorities to find out a solution in this regard on Monday.

Around 120 sanitation workers had started a no work agitation near the entrance of the Municipal Council here since Thursday demanding immediate payment of their arrears, regular payment of their salaries, provision of necessary facilities to the workers, etc.

However, the administration did not pay any attention towards the agitation. On the contrary, the concerned contractors and Municipal Council officials had threatened to fire all the workers if they did not return to work. However, these workers continued their protest and decided not to return to work until their demands were met.

Due to this protest, the sanitation work in the city had come to a standstill and a tense situation had arisen among the workers. This morning, Shiv Sena leader Hemant Jambewar, Republican Party leader Rohidas Raut, Hansraj Undirwade met the workers and learned about their problems. The protest was called off after a phone conversation with the chief officer of the municipal council and the contractor, who assured them that the issue would be resolved on Monday. At this time, all the sanitation workers were present.
