Gadchiroli Feb. 16 (District Correspondent) Alleging that the liquor ban in the district of Gadchiroli has miserably failed, Maharashtra Tribal and Backward People’a Action Committee (MTABPAC) has demanded immediate review of the liquor ban in the district.
Dr. Pramod Salwe, President of the Committee has issued a press statement in this regard recently in which he has strongly opposed the liquor ban in the district of Gadchiroli saying that due to spurious liquor many people have lost their lives and the lives of many youths, students and women have been destroyed because they are engaged in the sale of illicit liquor.
Even as the liquor ban is in effect in the district illicit liquor is being openely sold everywhere in the district, Dr. Salwe has pointed out. Many youths and women are facing the police cases because of illicit cases of liquor and their life is being ruined, he has said.
A revenue of crores of rupees also is lost because of the liquor ban. From whom this loss will be recovered, he has asked. It is therefore very necessary to take a complete review of the pre-liquor ban and post liquor ban situation of the district, Dr. Salwe has stressed. Crores of rupees are being spent for de addiction activities but the money is going waste, he has said.
The situation such as cases of illicit liquor sale number of involvement of youths, women and students in the sale of illicit liquor, overall situation in the district before and after the liquor ban etc is needed to be reviewed.
The liquor ban should therefore be reviewed on the lines of Chandrapur district by appointing a committee, Dr. Salwe has demanded. The other office bearers of the Samiti Santosh Tatkondiwar, Narayan Sayam, Purushottam Bhagadkar, Anil Meshram, Ravi Bongoni, Anwar Hussain, Malti Sadmek, Priya Bala, Nilima Ambade, Amir Fulkawar have also joined Dr. Salwe in raising this demand.
