Gadchiroli Feb. 20 (District Correspondent) Shivaji Maharaj became Chhatrapati because of his public welfare and pro- people works. He made heavy struggle for Swarajya, he eliminated the darkness of inequality and lighted the lamp of equality in the society. His work will always remain ideal, said Mr. Anil Bhusari, noted speaker from Bhandara while speaking at the Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti here on Wednesday.

The district branch of Maratha Sewa Sangha had organized this programme at the meeting hall of Shivaji convent here. The programme was chaired by Er. Suresh Ladke, President of Maratha Sewa Sangha while Dr. Dhammadeep Bodele, well known dentist, Mr. Dadaji Chafle, former President of Sewa Sangha, Govindrao Banvale, Ms. Yogita Ade, Secretary of Jijau Brigade, Er. Pandurang Nagapure were prominently present as the chief guests.

Mr. Bhusari further said in the struggle of Swarajya many people sacrificed their lives only because of the great leadership and his philosophy of giving equal treatment to all the religions without any discrimination. The process of social change started by the great warrior will have to be continued further, he stated.

Dr. Bodele gave instances of many incidents in the life of Shivaji Maharaj and explained how great and secular minded he was. He was not an ordinary King but the one who treated his people even with different faiths and women with utmost respect. His thoughts need to be emulated even today, he added.

Mr. Ladke in his presidential speech told about the great works done by Shivaji Maharaj saying it will inspire the generations for long time.

Mr. Dadaji Chudri, Prof. Sandhya Yelekar were felicitated for their achievements in this programme by presenting them shawl and mementos. Ms. Shubra Kshirsagar presented one act play on Maa jijau and Pari Bhandekar presented a powada on Shivaji Maharaj.

Mr. Maroti Dudhbawre made an introductory speech, Prof. Vijay Kuttarmare conducted the programme and Chandrakant Shiwankar proposed the vote of thanks. A large number of people attended the programme.
