Gadchiroli July 30 (District Correspondent) Senior leader of Nationalist Congress Party (SP) and former Minister for Home Anil Deshmukh has demanded early revocation of the recently passed Public Safety Act claiming that it will be used against the anti-establishment people in the name of urban naxalites.

Enforcement Directorate (ED) was basically formed for the eradication of terrorism but now it is used as a political tool against the opposition. No other than the Chief justice of India B. R. Gawai has spoken about the misuse of ED. The same thing will happen about the Public Safety Act. Though it is told by the government that the Act is meant for the urban naxals, it is going to be used against those raising their voice against the government, Deshmukh said while addressing a press conference at the Circuit house here this afternoon.

Mr. Deshmukh was in the city for a party meeting. Dr. Rajendra Shingne, former minister of state, Atul Ganyarpawar, District NCP chief, Suresh Poreddiwar, state vice president, Ms. Bhagyashree Atram, former ZP chief, senior leader Rajendra Vaidya, Adv. Sanjay Thakre, Vijay Goradwar were prominently present.

Mr. Deshmukh strongly criticized the chief minister for ignoring the promise of loan waiver of farmers as promised before the elections. He also demanded early payment of bonus to paddy growing farmers and compensation for the crops damaged caused due to heavy floods following the release of water from the Gosekhurd Project.

The ‘Ladki Bahin’ scheme was launched before the elections to attract the women voters but now it has been found that thousands of bogus people have been given the benefit of this scheme. This money should be recovered and the sum of Rs. 2100 be given to eligible women soon as promised, Deshmukh further demanded.

During the Democratic Front government ‘Shakti’ Act was passed by the state legislature and was sent to the centre for its approval but the proposal was gathering dust and now it has been sent back. The govt. should pass the stringent Act to deal with the atrocities against women, the former minister also demanded. The bills of Rs. 90,000 crores of the contractors are pending with the state government due to which contractors have started committing suicide, Deshmukh pointed out and demanded early release of these bills.

A Mandal Yatra is being taken out by the NCP shortly which will be flagged off by party supremo Sharad Pawar at Nagpur, Mr. Pawar was the first CM in the country to implement this commission Mr. Deshmukh informed. He appealed the people to participate in this yatra in large numbers.
