Gadchiroli Dec. 11 (District Correspondent) A police guard deployed on the security of the Principal District and Sessions Judge here was killed by the bullets of his own gun in the premises of the District and Sessions Court in Complex area here this afternoon.
The name of the deceased jawan is given as Umaji Holi (43). According to information, Holi was working as Police Amaldar in the district police force and was deployed as the security guard of the district judge.
As usual, Umaji Holi went to the court on duty to reach the judge to the court at around 3 pm today. After the judge was taken out of the vehicle, he fired 6 rounds at himself in quick succession with the AK 47 gun in his possession. Three of these rounds hit Holi on his chest, while three rounds were fired in the court premises. He was badly injured in this. On hearing the sound of gunfire police and court staff immediately rushed to the spot and admitted Holi to the district general hospital which is very close to the court building. However, he breathed his last during the treatment.
According to Gadchiroli Police Station In charge Revchand Singanjude, the trigger of his own gun got triggered by Umaji Holi inadvertently and it remained pressed for some time. Due to this, six rounds were fired in quick succession. This does not seem to be an attempt suicide, the incident seems to have happened all of a sudden unintentionally, he told.
However, it has not yet been ascertained whether it was a case of suicide or accident. Further investigations are in progress in the matter.
Meanwhile Superintendent of Police Mr. Nilotpal and other police officers visited the spot to get more information. The police department will provide all the necessary help to the family of the deceased police jawan. His last rites will be performd at his native place Mohtola in Kurkheda taluka, it has been informed by the police.
