Gadchiroli Feb. 11 (District Correspondent) A Police Constable belonging to Special Operation Team of the Gadchiroli Police was martyred in an encounter that took place between the police suads and the Naxalites between villages Dirangi and Fulnar in Bhamragad taluka this morning. Mahesh Kavadu Nagulwar (39) is given as the name of the said jawan.
Meanwhile, a Naxal camp was busted by joint squads of the C-60 commando force of the Gadchiroli Police and Quick Action Team (QAT) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) between the remote villages Dirangi and Fulnar in Bhamragad taluka during the operation.
A huge quantity of naxal literature and belongings were also seized by team during the operation, said the police here today. One police jawan was also injured in the exchange of fire that took place during the search operations.
Based on a credible intelligence that a Naxal camp has been set up since last few days between Dirangi and Fulnar villages, a search operation was launched in the area jointly by 18 C-60 units and 2 QAT units of CRPF led by Additional SP (Admin) M. Ramesh and Additional SP Aheri Dr. Shrenik Lodha.
Today morning a cordon was laid and there has been an exchange of fire with Naxals throughout the day. One Jawan of C-60 commando force had received bullet injuries and was evacuated by helicopter and admitted in the District Hospital of Gadchiroli for treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries, during the treatment.
Mahesh was a resident of village Ankhoda in Chamorshi taluka of the Gadchiroli. Tomorrow, on Feb. 12, his last rites will be performed with full state honours at his native village Ankhoda, it has been informed by the police. Further search of area is on.
